The Bi-Lo Berm where student seating is located.By: Aysia Randall
The University of South Carolina just opened its new baseball stadium last week and student fans are not happy about where they have to watch the games from.
"The only designated places for Carolina students are where the green, fake, spray-painted turf is ...and I don't see why I would stand for nine innings of a baseball game," says one student.
The USC Athletic Department thought seating students on the Bi-Lo Berm was a good idea.
" They decided, hey, let's give them a nice grassy area in the right field to picnic," says Student Ticketing Coordinator Patrick Donovan. "You can lounge around...take towels and blankets and stuff in there. The biggest complaint is obviously there's no seats for the berm...but that's something thats still a work in progress,"
The students also complained that when you sit on the Berm you are forced to look through the railing.
" If you sat down you wouldn't be able to see over the railing, even for me , I'm 6'4. I couldn't see over the railing. So when we stood up everyone got mad at us and yelled." says one student.
Head Coach Ray Tanner told the Daily Gamecock and he had not been informed of the seating situation but says the team needs students.
"They make a lot of noise," says Tanner.
USC Facilities Director Jeff Davis says they will be discussing the problem but nothing will be decided until after the Clemson game on Saturday.
