Devan Downey led the Gamecocks to a 78-77 upset of No. 24 Kentucky on Saturday with a game-winning jumper with three seconds left in the game.

Kentucky held a 10 point lead in the second half and seemed to be pulling away but Downey answered back with a series of 3-point shots.  Then, down by one with three seconds left, Downey hit a final jumper to put the Gamecocks on top.

Downey's hot streak began in the second half, scoring 23 points after almost being held scoreless in the first.  Zam Fredrick led the Gamecocks scorers with 24 points.

It was only the second victory ever for the Gamecocks in Lexington, they had not won in Rupp Arena since 1997.

The game also marked Coach Darrin Horn's return to the state of Kentucky.  The Gamecocks head coach grew up in Lexington and coached Western Kentucky basketball for five seasons.

The next test for the Gamecocks will come Tuesday night at Florida.  The game will be nationally televised and will begin at 9:00 pm.
