Many people know the holiday season is time for giving.  But Columbia's Ronald McDonald House has been experiencing a huge drop in donations this year.  The House provides a place to stay for parents whose children are hospitalized.

Anne Ackerman, the Chief Executive of the Ronald McDonald House, says she still remains hopeful.

"Its not about what you give its that you give," said Ackerman.

Even with the recent shortage in donations, volunteers are still trying to bring a little bit of Christmas cheer to the eight families that are staying at the house.  The families pay the Ronald McDonald House ten dollars a night while their child receives medical care.

Food Lion has been helping out by donating baked goods every six weeks.  Ackerman says the community has reached out and helped anyway they can.

This holiday season Ackerman is hoping that people will see these families and their children who are struggling with their serious medical problems this season.

If you would like to help out or volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House you can call at (803)254-3181.
