Chris Smelley

It took the entire season, but it seems like the Gamecocks finally have a starting quarterback. Head coach Steve Spurrier announced after Wednesday's practice Chris Smelley would play most of next week's final regular season game against Clemson.
Spurrier had been playing musical- quarterback for the last two games, alternating Smelley and Stephen Garcia every play. But after the team's 56 to 6 lost to Florida last week, Spurrier hinted that he may abandon the strategy.
Spurrier said he felt that Garcia still needed more training, and that he would work on getting the redshirt freshman ready for next year.
