An Augusta company will spend about $4.3 million to re-open a plant in West Columbia that will employ about 100 people. The company makes several kinds of meat products, including corned beef hash, marinated beef steak tips and pre-seasoned ground beef.
The Commerce Department says that FPL Food LLC will reopen a plant that closed in December. The company will also transfer some of their employees from Augusta to the new plant.
Marketing director Steve Hixton said the company will have about 800 workers in Augusta and Columbia when the expansion is complete.
