S.C. Reps Push for New Rules on Wetlands

by: Ben Dimond

Two members of the South Carolina House are pushing for state environmental agencies to simplify rules to get permits to build in coastal wetland areas.

Conway Representative Bill Witherspoon and Greenville Representative Dwight Loftis are pushing a resolution which asks the Department of Health and Environmental Control to approve the new rules.

Conservationist groups say that doing this would weaken state rules meant to protect the wetlands.
