Vanderbilt Defeats USC in Baseball; Wins Series Victory on Sunday

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team had a tough time in Nashville this weekend, losing their series to the Vanderbilt Commodores after a 10-4 defeat on Sunday.

This loss sets the Gamecocks record at 11-5 overall and 1-2 in the SEC.  Vanderbilt is 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.

The Gamecocks scored first in the 1st inning but their lead was short lived.  Vanderbilt tied the game at the bottom of the 1st with an RBI by Kyle Enders that sent Alex Feinberg home.

The Commodores scored four more runs in the 4th inning and Andrew Giobbi had a grand slam in the 7th that pulled Vanderbilt to a 10-2 lead.

The Gamecocks scored the last two runs of the night in the 9th inning with a two run homer by Justin Smoak.  This was Smoak's 4th homer of the year and 43rd of his career.  He is tied for 5th on the USC All-Time list with Chris Boyle.

USC's next game is Tuesday at 7pm against the College of Charleston.  There will be a live audio broadcast on the USC Sports website, www.gamecocksonline.com.
