Big city girl with big dreams
Hometown: Hermosa Beach, Calif.
Aspiration: Career in print journalism or law
Growing up in a small beach town on the edge of Los Angeles, Taylor Estes grew up surrounded by news.
There is never a dull moment in the streets of L.A. and Taylor found an abundance of inspiration in the bustling city. As an only child, she grew up a creative thinker in order to entertain herself, and soon found her creative outlet in writing. She started out writing short stories in middle school, and upon graduating from high school she realized that she wanted to write about things that mattered-- and thus her love of journalism was born.
Intersecting her love of law and politics, she interned in 2015 at a law firm in Manhattan Beach, CA, and in 2016 she interned at The Nerve, a watchdog journalism publication in Columbia, SC. In the summer of 2017 Taylor honed her social media and advertising skills by interning in Torrance, CA as a PR advisor for a plastic surgery practice.
As is reflected in her internship work, Taylor’s goal is to gain experience in all areas of her interests. Her love of photography brought her to work as a photographer for the Daily Gamecock, USC’s student run newspaper, from 2014-2016. Following her career at The Gamecock, she became editor-in-chief for USC at the Odyssey, an online college-based publication. In her spare time she enjoys reading, writing, taking pictures, and spending time with her boyfriend and her family. In the future she dreams of using her talent for writing to make a positive difference in the world, by either working as a journalist or immersed in the justice system.
