Spring has begun with beautiful temperatures and clear skies, but some here in the Midlands were glad to see ice. Columbia's two Rita's Italian Ice shops rang in the new season on Monday by handing out free cups of ice to everyone who came by.
People flocked from all over to get a scoop of the fun, from regulars to first timers.
Peggy Hrovat is the co-owner of the Rita's at Sandhills and she says she couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the first day of spring.
"What's better than Rita's Italian Ice? And to give you a taste of spring, we have wonderful flavors to get you ready for spring and then summer," she says.
Hrovat also says despite many here in the Capital City are ready to see winter leaving, they are still excited to see some ice.
"They love it...and they get excited, because usually, most of them forget that we do this...they're very appreciative that we do it...and we love seeing the friendly people coming through," she says.
