Everyone knows it's tax season. But did you know it's tat season.
Tattoo and piercing shops around the country experience a big business boom this month because their customers are getting their tax refunds.
The average American's tax refund was $3,120 in 2015. Some of that money is making its way into Columbia tattoo shops.
Will "Ill Will" Davis, owner of Tattoo Trillionaires in Columbia, says tax season means big business for his store.
"We're looking at about a 40 percent increase in sales," Davis said.
Davis says it's well known that tax season is money season for stores specializing in body art.
"Everybody in the tattoo industry knows that when tax time comes, that's what you've got to be prepared for," Davis said.
Tattoo and piercing shops around South Carolina should be packed this weekend. Sometimes they even have to turn clients away.
"We'll have people go and get lunch and come back later, or sometimes we have to reschedule for later in the week," Davis said. "We'll make it work, but during this season you have to be flexible."
Davis is hoping this tax season will leave a lasting mark around the Palmetto State.
