The National Education Association reports that more than 160,000 children miss school every day out of fear of being bullied. The website WalletHub ranked South Carolina ninth in the country for problems with bullying using statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the National Education Association.

Columbia's Warrior Warehouse gym opened its doors to children five to 17 years old to teach them how to react if they're being bullied. The children learned self-defense techniques while their parent's learned what they can do to handle a bullying situation.

"Operation: Banish a Bully" was started after a teenager committed suicide due to bullying. The young woman was the niece of Ty-Keem Sadler, one of the boxing trainers at the gym.

"I want each and every kid to learn something from this, either to not fear anyone or to have self confidence, or to have the knowledge to go out and tell someone that they're being bullied or picked on," Sadler says.

Warrior Warehouse owner Lance Adams says they plan to offer more classes like this in the future, free of charge.

If you or someone that you know is a victim of bullying, you can  talk with an online representative from the U.S. government's Stop Bullying organization or you can call the group's hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.
