A teenage gunman has been charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder. He killed his father and shot three people at Townville Elementary School Wednesday.
Police say fourteen year old Jesse Osborne shot and killed his father then drove his father's truck to the playground of Townville Elementary School Wednesday. There he shot two students and a teacher outside the school.
Jesse called his grandparents crying and they came over to make sure he was okay.
"When they went into the house, they found their son had been shot and their grandson not there," coroner Gregh Shore said.
Someone made a 911 call from one of the classrooms at 1:45 p.m. and first responders arrived seven minutes later. Volunteer firefighter Jamie Brock subdued the teen before he entered the school.
Student Jacob Hall was air-lifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital with a bullet wound in his leg that severed a major artery. Jacob has suffered a brain aneurism because of blood loss and is on life-support.. The other student was shot in the foot and the teacher was shot in the shoulder. They were taken away in an ambulance to AnMed Hospital where they were treated and released Wednesday night.
School superintendent Dr. Joanna Avery said the staff had participated in county-wide active shooting training and were prepared to handle the shooting.
"The quick response by the principal, teachers, and staff kept this horrific tragedy from being much worse. We are heartbroken at this senseless act of violence", she said.
Many of the students were in shock. A mother said her daughter did not talk for five minutes. Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week and counseling services are being offered for the students and staff.
A family friend set up a Go Fund Me page for Jacob with a goal to raise $50,000 to help his parents while they miss work. The goal was quickly reached and a new $100,000 goal has been set.
