Have you ever taken Interstate-85 North towards Charlotte? If you have, odds are you’ve passed my little country corner. I’m from Gaffney, which is known for our big juicy peaches and our even bigger peach-shaped water tower right off the interstate.
Being born and raised below the Mason Dixon Line, I’ve always taken pride in being a southern belle. Honestly, it’s something people from the North will never be able to comprehend. People always claim that my accent is my most distinguishable characteristic and you can hear me coming from a mile away. When you’re raised on sweet tea and homemade biscuits, I guess the accent just comes with it and I don’t think I’d have it any other way.
When I was 20, I moved to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina as a transfer student. In May, I will graduate with a degree in broadcast journalism.
I really enjoy investigative reporting. There is nothing like seeing a story begin to unravel right in front of your eyes.
On the weekends and in my free time, you will probably catch me watching a rerun of Law & Order: SVU, reading a murder-mystery novel or taking an afternoon snooze. I try to go back to my hometown as much as possible, so I can see my family. My family is my life and everything I do, I do for them.
Upon graduation in May 2016, I plan to pursue a career as a lobbyist. Politics have always had a certain appeal to me.
Whatever I decide to do, I know I’ll be successful. After all, life is journey and I just want to enjoy the ride.
