A Lower Richland High School student was arrested Monday afternoon after deputies say that he stabbed another student in the teachers' parking lot. Brandon Heyward Goodson, a 19-year-old student, was charged with attempted murder and assault by mob. The victim's name has not been released but he is in stable condition.
"We identified that he (Goodson) pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body," said Lieutenant Wilson. "Victim was transported to Palmetto Health Richland with non-life threatening injuries."
Investigators believe other students should not be concerned because it was a targeted attack.
"It was an isolated incident," Lieutenant Wilson said. "This incident was over a girl. It was not over gangs or drugs or anything like that so it was an ongoing situation that happened between the victim and the suspect."
The two high school resource officers responded to the stabbing within five minutes and put the high school on lock down until it was safe for all students. Deputies are reviewing procedures to increase safety for all students and teachers.
Lieutenant Wilson advises students to use a "buddy system" and never go anywhere by themselves to prevent themselves from harm.
Deputies are still searching for the two other men involved in the stabbing. Anyone with any information regarding the incident should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
