A University of South Carolina student was found dead from an apparent murder-suicide at Copper Beech Townhomes, a popular housing community for students.
The victim was identified as Diamoney Greene, who was a sophomore at USC and lived at Copper Beech apartment. Richland County Police say 21-year-old Brandon Early shot Greene before shooting himself.
"Just before seven o' clock Richland County sheriff deputies responded to two individuals that were inside the apartment. Upon arrival, we realized we had two deceased victims both shot in the upper body. Right now we are trying to determine what happened and what led up to this incident," Lieutenant Curtis Wilson said.
Crime scene investigators used the front door and downstairs window to enter in the apartment.Wilson said the bodies were in the apartment for several days.
Robert Bell has lived at Copper Beech for three years. He said he found out about the incident on social media. He would have preferred to be notified by Copper Beech first.
"I mean I would rather them tell me now that the morning and get a random newsletter on my door that says oh yeah by the way someone got shot," Bell said.
The Richland County Police Department is still investigating a motive for the crime.
