Chester City councilman Odell Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in a neighborhood off of Highway 9 Tuesday night.
There is speculation that the incident may be gang related. The incident happened on Roundtree Circle, known by the police as the home of the "Roundtree Circle Gang."
Williams was in his car, two blocks away from his home when the incident occurred.
"We can't quite pin down exactly why [Williams] was in that area," says Officer Alex Underwood.
Chester Police reported that 20 shell casings were found at the scene. Police have no suspects, but a tan Dodge pick-up has been impounded, possibly involved in the case.
Police have yet to identify a motive, but Underwood says the case has become top priority.
"His untimely death by way of such a heinous crime has certainly left each of us devastated," said Mayor Wanda Stringfellow.
Williams was a Chester policeman for over 20 years and was first elected to the town council in 1997.
