Some people put pineapple on their barbecue. Some judge the five aspects of barbecue — appearance, aroma, texture/tenderness and overall experience. Some tweet about barbecue. Some make their own.

Barbecue can be experienced in business attire during a short lunch break, or with a big family on a Sunday. The preference of sides to accompany barbecue differs. The choice of sauce can be a contentious debate.

The Carolina Reporter traveled across South Carolina looking for the people of pork. There’s not one kind of person, but many, which is what makes barbecue unique.

The people who eat the barbecue are a melting pot — varying backgrounds and stories to share. Barbecue unites them all.
