The Gamecock's kicked off their 2012 season to sell out crowds at Carolina Stadium. Fans got an early start to their tailgating festivities, ready for the first pitch.
"Honey, you better believe that I'm one of the best fans out there today cause I love it," one woman said.
"We come early and leave late," another fan said
Some fans even took the day off work to catch the game that they had been looking forward to since last baseball season ended.
Superfan Dustin Martin said tailgating is a tradition that they have been doing for four years. He has always been a Gamecock football fan, but after living with two star baseball players, Matt Price and Jackie Bradley Jr., baseball has grown on him.
He even drove the twenty-two hours to Omaha last year to support the Gamecocks in the College World Series.
"We ran through a bunch of tornados in Missouri," Martin said. "And I thought for about ten seconds we were gonna get swept away. Luckily we didn't."
Even through all the dangers faced on the trip Martin said it was still worth it.
"The one thing I probably won't forget about all of it, the final out that clenched the game was Matt pitching and it was a pop up and Jackie caught it and that ended the game. I just looked out there and like those are my boys."
Gamecocks are off to a good start this year and Martin hopes to head back to Omaha for a third College World Series win.
