The tables were set and the candles were lit for Valentine's Day dinner in Lexington.

And while Waffle House might not be the first restaurant that comes to mind for a Valentine's date, the reservation list was full.

Only a few of the chain's restaurants hold the annual event.  This year was the fourth for the Lexington location.

Pat and Robert Wooten are Waffle House regulars who sometimes dine there four times a week.

"After church on Sunday?  Waffle House.  Wednesday?  Waffle House," said Pat.

They say "fancy" is not what is important to them on Valentine's Day, so they were happy to be a part of the festivities.

"It's the atmosphere, the smiles that we get.  We can't even drive up to the parking lot without them getting our coffee," Pat added.

Manager Mike Rogers says people come back every year to celebrate.  The restaurant offers specials, including heart-shaped waffles.

"We've had people that from day one, they come every time.  So they make their reservations early," said Rogers.

But not all of the Valentine's diners are dinner regulars.

"We never come here before midnight," said Tim Krese.

Krese was there with his wife, Wendy.  They wanted to do something different this Valentine's.

"I thought this would be a very memorable Valentine's," Wendy said.

Though usually a no-frills kind of a place, customers enjoyed a fancy take on an old favorite.
