The annual Carolina Day celebration kicked off at the South Carolina Statehouse yesterday with a celebration of the USC baseball team's National Championship.
Gov. Nikki Haley presented Coach Ray Tanner with the Gamecock flag that flew over the Statehouse following the team's second title win.
"Coach Tanner, find a great spot for it. And let's look forward to doing it again," said Haley.
USC President Harris Pastides also spoke at the event.
"You know me as the president, but I'd rather be called shortstop. But I don't see that happening today," joked Pastides.
The baseball team, former players, and fans were all a part of the celebration.
Following the flag presentation, the team was honored on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Baseball season begins February 17, when the Gamecocks host VMI.
