Police have arrested and charged USC student, Theodore Podewil with arson of the Salty Nut Fire. Podewil has also been charged with three counts of possession and use of an incendiary device.
Columbia businesses and residents are thankful that police have made a arrest.
"A moment of relief and we really appreciate the USC police to catch him," said Andy's Deli Owner Andy Schlon.
The news came as quite a shock for those who live nearby.
"That made me feel really uncomfortable because I live in such a close vicinity that he could easily choose to target Greene Street next, and I don't want that to happen," said Laura Robinson.
Police say they believe Podewil had plans to set more fires.
"We don't know what he would have done next. Officers went up in the to his residence there was sine devices that had not been packaged yet so we're just glad that they were able to get him off the streets," said Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins.
