A community garden planted by eco-conscious USC organization, Sustainable Carolina, is giving students a chance to reconnect with nature without having to leave campus. Thecommunity garden is located outside the West Quad B residence hall, better known as the "green quad."
Each student volunteer receives a 4x4 plot to tend to within the 1000 square foot garden. Once their fruits and vegetables have grown, they harvest them out to the community.
"It's about giving to the community a sense of involvement," says Malte Wielman, Sustainable Carolina Coordinator, noting that all area residents are invited to take from the garden at any time.
Next up, the organization is adding a green house to its garden and working toward green dorm room certification.
