Kyara is a senior Broadcast Journalism major, and English minor from Eagle River, Alaska. She is excited about being a part of the Senior Semester Journalism program and having the opportunity to hone her skills as a journalist.
Kyara was inspired to become a journalist at a very young age - after watching one of her favorite movies, Harriet the Spy. She references a quote in particular from the movie, that has always stuck with her, "I learn everything I can, and I write down everything I see. Golly says if I want to be a writer then I'd better start now." Like, Harriet she began writing, and decided later in life that, majoring in Broadcast journalism was the best fit for her!
Kyara has kept herself involved on-, and off-camera through her collegiate career. She has interned with the Richland County Sheriffs Department as a PIO officer, and is currently interning at WLTX-News19. Aside from internships Kyara wrote for The Daily Gamecock her Sophomore year, and Produced, edited, and hosted her own segment, "Gamecocks in the Kitchen" on the student media channel;SGTV.
After graduation, Kyara, aspires to be a foreign correspondent. She would also love the opportunity to produce and anchor later in her career. She attributes her love of traveling to her childhood. Growing up in a military family required that she move a lot; and it has played a major role in shaping the woman she has become.
In her spare time, Kyara, loves to indulge in food - both cooking and dinning out at a variety of restaurants, outdoor activities, photography, and spending time with her one year nephew!
