A study released by UCLA's Cooperative Institutional Research Program shows college freshmen are becoming better prepared for their first year of college. USC is no exception.

USC freshmen Lauren Whalen came into the fall semester knowing how difficult classes would be.

"I definitely knew the classes were going to be harder and knew I was going to need to read more, study more and just up all my testing skills," she said.

The study shows SAT scores and GPA have both risen for incoming freshmen. More than 40% of the entire freshmen class receieved an academic scholarship in 2010.

USC offers different programs to help freshmen with their transition.

University 101 is a USC program that aims to help freshmen adjust to college. Dan Friedman, Director of University 101, said he has seen the how the program benefits students. He said they are better able to tackle their adameics and have better study strategies.

Laura said she sees it too.

"It showed me different study techniques and where I can go to get help, with ACE and everything," she said.
