Enjoying the sights and smell of downtown Columbia on a cloudy day.
My fascination with journalism began when I picked up The State newspaper's sports section when I was 10. At 29, my fascination hasn't waned.
Sports became a gateway to journalism for me, and my interest grew as reading newspapers and magazines introduced me to a world beyond my own.
The feeling of wanting to see the world I'd read about from my Midlands home helped my decision to join the U.S. Marine Corps. After my tour of duty, I decided to attend USC to pursue a journalism career.
In the next five years, I hope to be a sports journalist who can report stories that connect people in ways they couldn't imagine and look at the ways the world moves from different perspectives. Sports reporting remains my first love, but I also like to read about politics and entertainment, some business stories and the latest science breakthrough.
I feel all those things will come in due time with hard work and a goal to become a better reporter than I was the day before. But now, I will settle on just trying to pass senior semester.
