A light bulb went off in my head seven years ago when I first saw a television show documenting the life of a young fashionista working at Teen Vogue.

Journalism! I had never excelled in math or science, but writing I understood. After seeing this glamorized version of the magazine world, the simple idea of being a writer gradually turned into more of an obsession.

Since then, my 14-year-old's dreams of working for a fashion magazine have turned into a 21-year-old's reality. Now on my final leg of the journalism tour at the University of South Carolina, I've learned that fashion journalism isn't all I can write about.

After an internship at Wrightsville Beach Magazine, I discovered my love for feature writing and the ability to show readers an image through details. To me, journalism is sharing a truthful story in a creative way.

In five years, I see myself working for a fashion magazine in a big city far from my North Carolina childhood home. My excitement about writing jump-started from a "reality-TV" image of the journalism industry, but my interest has only strengthened into a true passion and a love I hope to have for the rest of my life.
