Harvest Hope Expect Record Number of Families for the Holidays

Workers at the Harvest Hope Food Bank are preparing for their annual holiday rush and they say they are expecting more people this year than they've ever had around Thanksgiving.

"There is an increase in need during the holiday seasons. last year during the week of thanksgiving we saw over 2200 people come in and I know we are aging to see a greater number coming to us this time," Skot Garrick says.

Over 17% of South Carolina's population lives in poverty and may not get a meal for Thanksgiving. Harvest Hope volunteers are busy as ever collecting food for a lot of those families.

The families who apply are assorted based on their income level and the number of people in their household. The can receive items like milk, yogurt, eggs, and even fruit.

Skot Garrick says you can also donate money.

"Ninety eight cent of every dollar donated to Harvest Hope goes to feed hungry families," Garrick says.

Thanksgiving is about two weeks away and many families are still in need.
