The South Carolina Gamecocks demolished the Kentucky Wildcats 51-3 Saturday. It was South Carolina's biggest victory margin in an SEC game since joining the league in 1992.
Coach Steve Spurrier announced last week he was starting sophomore Connor Shaw over fifth-year senior Steven Garcia, following a disappointing performance against Auburn.
Shaw ended up rushing for 42 yards on 15 carries passes for 207 yards and completed four touchdowns.
Other standouts included sophomore running back Marcus Lattimore who rushed for 102 yards on 22 carries and caught four passes for 14 yards.
South Carolina's defense held the Wildcats under 100 yards of offense forced six Kentucky turnovers and held the Wildcats to just six first downs. Kentucky ran just six plays in South Carolina territory, all on their first drive after the Gamecocks fumbled the opening kickoff.
Shaw's second start of the season was a turnaround from his play earlier in the season. He says the big difference was his mindset entering the game.
"I wasn't as nervous as last time. I've been there, done that; that's the way I felt about it," Shaw said.
