The dog that saved a family from a burning house Monday is recovering from burns she received in the blaze.
Jonnie Girl, a fifteen-year-old golden retriever mix is being treated for burns at an animal clinic in Columbia.
The dog woke up her owner by licking her face early Monday as fire engulfed the house near Pine Ridge. Amy Cleckler says the dog woke her up and allowed the family to escape from the house.
Jonnie Girl is being treated by Dr. Van De Grift who says the dog is lucky to be alive.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and authorities estimate the damage of the house at $70,000.
Cleckler is getting help with food and shelter from her local chapter of the American Red Cross.
