Bob Fulton, the Voice of the Gamecocks for over four decades, was remembered by friends and Gamecock players Tuesday at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Fulton, who retired after being the radio announcer for Gamecock athletics for 42 years in 1995, died last Wednesday. He was 89 years old.
Former USC quarterback and shortstop Jeff Grantz noted that Fulton's funeral was being held on, "a beautiful, beautiful day to celebrate the life of an icon."
Casey Manning, a former USC basketball player and later basketball broadcaster who worked with Fulton, called him, "the most special man I ever met in my life."
Fulton was named the South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year eight times and was the first non-coach or athlete to be inducted into the S.C. Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.
