The first half started slow and ended in a tied score of 7-7, but the Gamecocks managed to pull ahead in the second half. Bryan Maddox scored a touchdown in the third quarter, putting South Carolina in the lead. Alshon Jefery sealed the deal with a final touchdown with a little more than six minutes left in the game.
"We've not played second half well at all in our road losses, and we actually won the second half tonight. So we need to try and continue that if we want the chance to have a big year," said Coach Steve Spurrier in a press conference following the game.
South Carolina will face Tennessee at home this weekend with a 12:21 kick-off.
