The Columbia Police Department's new interim chief Randy Scott took his oath of office a brief ceremony at City Hall Tuesday morning.
"It's my duty to make sure the City of Columbia Police Department is a great place to work," Scott said.
Dozens of police officers and city officials watched as Scott vowed to protect and defend the laws of the state and country before Chief Administrative Judge Dana Turner.
"The first thing we need to do is make sure the officers of our community are happy," Scott said.
City Manager Steve Gantt stated that Scott has a lot of qualities that he is looking for in the city's next police chief. One of those include Scott's master's degree in criminal justice and that fact that he is a Columbia native.
"I'm excited about this opportunity and I am ready and willing to serve the citizens of Columbia," Scott said.
