Loud sirens rang out from glistening red and white fire trucks that looked like a massive train rolling down Main Street Monday. The Columbia Fire Department kicked off its Fire Prevention Week by parading down Main Street Monday morning.

The theme of their parade was "Smoke Detectors... A Sound You Can Live With."  The Columbia Fire Department was promoting a grant that allowed it to give out free smoke detectors to Richland County residents.

Families, day care center students and shoppers watched as fire trucks, fire personnel and even USC's mascot Cocky pass by.

"We just moved to Columbia so we're always looking for something fun to do," said Conner Ashby.
