Former South Carolina wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home Monday evening at his home near Denver, Colorado.
Kenney, who signed with the Denver Broncos two years ago, was the Gamecocks' all-time leading receiver. He set records for number of receptions (207), receiving yards (2,781), and consecutive games with a reception (43), when played with USC from 2005-08.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley's home in Centennial, Colorado on Monday and found his body in the second-floor master bedroom.
Detectives believe McKinley died from a self-inflected gunshot wound.
McKinley was selected in the fifth round by Denver in the 2009 NFL Draft and had early success, but a knee injury sidelined him for the second half of the season during his rookie campaign. He was placed on injured reserve for the 2010 season after suffering another knee injury in August.
McKinley was 23 years old.
