USC pole vaulter Vica Shobe has been honored as an All-American despite recovering from two injuries and shoulder surgery that hampered her performance last year.

An injury like the one Shobe suffered often ends a pole vaulter's career.  Shobe, however, was able to recover well enough to make it to NCAA championships this year.  She placed eighth in the NCAA tournament but her competitiveness was enough to earn the All-American nod.

Shobe set a new South Carolina school record in January, vaulting 13 feet and 8.25 inches and she has since broken that record.  Her record right now is 13 feet and 11.25 inches.

Coach Johnson says Shobe is a standout athlete with a lot of drive.

"She's a great athlete with a lot of heart," says Johnson. "She's driven up the school record week after week in the indoor season."

Shobe hopes one day she will be able to compete in the summer Olympic games.
