The Gamecocks softball team put seven runs on the scoreboard and tallied three home runs Tuesday , but it was not enough to beat North Carolina. The Gamecocks lost to a hot-hitting Tarheels squad 17-7.

Freshman Briana Hamilton was the only Gamecock with more than one hit,  going 2-for-3 with one RBI.   Juniors Laura Mendes and P.J. Fulmer got their first career home runs in the game.

North Carolina broke the game open in the bottom with six runs on five hits in the sixth inning.

The Gamecocks will be in Knoxville for a three-game series starting Friday at 5:00 p.m.  They'll play a double header Saturday with the first game starting at 1:00 p.m.
