The South Carolina Gamecocks (19-5, 5-1 SEC) dropped game three of a weekend series with Auburn 10-6 Sunday. The loss stopped Carolina's winning streak at 13 and came after two wins against the Tigers Friday and Saturday.
Carolina out-hit the Tigers Sunday but pitching came up short. Freshmen Tyler Webb started for the Gamecocks but he only lasted one inning, pulled after giving up four runs.
It was the first time this season where the Gamecocks lost while out-hitting their opponents. Carolina out-hit Auburn 12-9. The Tigers' tenth run came off a hit batter.
Gamecocks did get on base but they just couldn't score. Whit Merrifield, Jackie Bradley Jr., Parker Bangs and Scott Wingo each tallied two hits for the Gamecocks. Bradley drove in a pair of runs with Bangs also tallying three RBI.
The Gamecocks host the Citadel on Tuesday. The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Carolina Stadium.
