It took the USC baseball team 13 innings to put away Georgia Southern 8-5 Tuesday. A base-clearing double from Brady Thomas broke a 5-5 tie, and John Taylor pitched two innings of relief to give the Gamecocks the win.
Scott Wingo reached first base with a lead-off walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. singled, and Christian Walker drew another walk to load the bases. Thomas drilled a double into left field bringing everyone home.
USC (17-4) out hit the Eagles (11-11) 14-10, with Thomas, Bradley Jr., and Bobby Haney all recording three hits. Thomas had the Gamecocks' only home run and tacked on four RBI's.
Taylor is now 1-1 for the season as he struck out two of the six batters he faced.
The Gamecocks will head to Auburn (16-5) Friday to face the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on CSS and ESPN360.com. Blake Cooper, who's undefeated in three starts this season, is slated to start. Cooper boasts a 2.90 ERA and 32 strikeouts.
The series will continue on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and will finish the 3-game series Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
