The USC baseball team took on Georgia Southern University Tuesday night in Statesboro. The game was a close one, with the Gamecocks and the Eagles matching each other point for point.
USC had the first run of game in the third inning. Jackie Bradley Jr. scored Bobby Haney from third base. But their lead was short lived. GSU's A.J. Wirnsberger responded with a homerun to tie the game.
For the third time in the game, the Gamecocks scored in the top of the sixth inning, and the Eagles responded in the bottom, each team scoring two runs.
The Gamecocks were leading 5-4 in the ninth, and it looked like USC was going to take the game when USC's Eric Phillips hit a grounder to Gamecocks third baseman Adrian Morales with one out. But Morales' throw soared over the head of first baseman Christian Walker, and GSU's Scooter Williams made it home tying the game.
In the twelfth inning GSU had runners on first and second with no outs. USC pitcher John Taylor saved the game with two strikeouts and a ground out.
In the last inning of the game, the bases were loaded and there was just one out. Brady Thomas hit the ball deep into left field, scoring three and winning the game for the gamecocks. The final score: 8-5.
This victory marked the eleventh straight win for the No. 14 ranked Gamecocks.
