Gamecocks Whit Merrifield and Scott Wingo had three hits apiece and six Gamecock pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts to lead South Carolina to a victory over the Davidson Wildcats, 8-3 on Wednesday night.
This was the seventh consecutive win for the Gamecocks.
Merrifield's three hits included a pair of doubles. It was the third time in his career that he has tallied two doubles in one game.
Merrifield and Wingo each scored two runs. Nick Ebert was 2-5 at the plate with two RBI.
The Gamecocks open SEC play Friday when they open a weekend series with the Tennessee Volunteers at Carolina Stadium.
