The South Carolina Gamecocks blanked Furman 15-0 Tuesday night at Fluor Field as Nolan Belcher threw six scoreless innings and Scott Wingo drove in a career-high four runs.
This is the second season in a row that the Gamecocks have beaten the Paladins by that score on the Furman's home field. Carolina's record is now 12-4 in the season while Furman dropped to 6-10.
The Gamecocks pulled ahead early with two runs in the first inning. They scored five more runs in the second to increase their lead.
South Carolina scored an unearned run against Furman pitcher Barry Benton to increase the Gamecock's lead to 8-0 in the fourth. Benton pitched five innings for Furman, allowing 11 runs, only four of them earned.
The Gamecocks Whit Merrifield finished 3 for 6 with three RBIs. Starters Adrian Morales, Kyle Enders and Evan Marzilli each tallied two hits. All nine starters scored at least one run in the game.
