South Carolina Women's Basketball team grabbed a big 52-42 win over No. 14 Georgia Sunday, thanks to the team delivering a high-scoring offense in the first half and a game-long solid defense.
This is the first time the Lady Gamecocks have beaten a top-15 team since Dec. 13, 2005.
The Gamecock defense work hard and limited Georgia's offense to hitting only 25.9 percent during the first half. South Carolina got points early from La'Keisha Sutton, who scored seven of the first nine points for the Gamecock.
Despite good effort from the Lady Bulldogs, the Gamecocks were still able to hold their lead in the second half. The final score was 52-42 Gamecocks.
Valerie Nainima led the Gamecocks to victory with 21 points and was the only Gamecock in double digits.
The only time the Gamecocks have beaten the Lady Bulldogs was in 2002.
The women's basketball team hosts Mississippi State at home on Thursday. Game starts at 7 p.m.
The Gamecock men were not so lucky. South Carolina fell to No. 14 Tennessee despite efforts from Deven Downey, who led the Gamecocks with 26 points.
Tennessee's Wayne Chism scored a career-high with 30 points, an effort that helped knock down the Gamecocks with a score of 79-53. South Carolina only shot 27.6 percent in the game.
The Vols beat the Gamecocks for the sixth straight time.
