South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier said the Gamecocks' performance Saturday against Tennessee wasn't very desirable.

"They outrushed us and they outgained us, but we could have been in the game," he said at a press conference on Tuesday.  "We could have certainly been in the game with Tennessee, but we weren't because of the turnovers and they [Tennessee] made the plays when it was necessary."

Spurrier knows his Gamecocks will be the underdog for the rest of the season.

"We're going to be the underdog in all these games.  And that means the experts think we're not as good as the teams we're playing," he said.  "And whether or not they're right, we've got to go find out."

Spurrier seemed optimistic about the game at Arkansas this Saturday.  He says he's focusing on building the young Carolina team.

"We're looking forward to just going out and playing, trying to get Stephen Garcia to play a lot better, those receiver, offensive line, defensive guys.  We're looking forward to this game," he said.
