Receiver Alshon Jeffery scores the go-ahead touchdown against Vanderbilt on Saturday.
USC finally got over the hump on Saturday, ending its two-year losing streak to Vanderbilt. The 22nd ranked Gamecocks escaped a close game with a 14-10 victory.
After an early kickoff return for a touchdown by Vanderbilt, USC fought back with a fourth quarter drive capped by a 43-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Garcia to Alshon Jeffries.
Special teams performance remains a question for USC.
"It's not the kicker," said special teams coordinator Shane Beamer. "It's all of us, starting with me, to the players, to the kicker, to the cover guys - we've all got to get better."
The Gamecocks are now ranked last in the SEC in kickoff coverage after the 99-yard return by Vanderbilt's Warren Norman on Saturday. With teams like Florida and Arkansas still left on the schedule, poor special teams could spell disaster.
T Gamecock wide receiver corps is proving to be stronger every week. Freshman Alshon Jeffery is leading the team, and is ranked 10th in the SEC in receiving yards in only his eighth game as a college player.
The Gamecocks will face Tennessee next Saturday at 7:45pm in Neyland Stadium.
