The Gamecocks take the field at Saturday night's game against SC State

The South Carolina Gamecocks improved their record to 4-1 after Saturday night's game win over SC State.
After a slow start, the Gamecocks picked up speed with a 30-yard field goal by Spencer Lanning and a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Stephen Garcia. The Gamecocks led 10 to 7 at half-time.
The Gamecocks may have left the field after the first half but the Williams-Brice crowd was still on their feet. The highly anticipated SC State Band took the field for the half-time show and fans started moving and grooving.
The excitement continued as the Gamecocks started the third quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run by Kenny Miles. Garcia followed with a 40-yard pass to Moe Brown and a 9-yard pass to Brown giving the Gamecocks a 31-7 lead. Garcia finished 13 for 19 for 132 yards.
South Carolina linebacker Eric Norwood blocked a field goal and intercepted one pass.
Freshman quarterback Reid McCollum took the field in the fourth quarter and threw his first career touchdown, a 20-yard pass to fellow freshman Ashlon Jeffery. This was Jeffery's first career touchdown.
SC State broke through for another 1-yard touchdown with only 4 seconds to go in the game bringing the final score to 38-14.
