The South Carolina Gamecocks improved their record to 4-1 after Saturday night's game win over  SC State.

After a slow start, the Gamecocks picked up speed with a 30-yard field goal by Spencer Lanning and a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Stephen Garcia.   The Gamecocks led 10 to 7 at half-time.

The Gamecocks may have left the field after the first half but the Williams-Brice crowd was still on their feet.  The highly anticipated SC State Band took the field for the half-time show and fans started moving and grooving.

The excitement continued as the Gamecocks started the third quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run by Kenny Miles.  Garcia followed with a 40-yard pass to Moe Brown and a 9-yard pass to Brown giving the Gamecocks a 31-7 lead.   Garcia finished 13 for 19 for 132 yards.

South Carolina linebacker Eric Norwood blocked a field goal and intercepted one pass.

Freshman quarterback Reid McCollum took the field in the fourth quarter and threw his first career touchdown, a 20-yard pass to fellow freshman Ashlon Jeffery.  This was Jeffery's first career touchdown.

SC State broke through for another 1-yard touchdown with only 4 seconds to go in the game bringing the final score to 38-14.
