A $7 million  project to teardown empty buildings in downtown Lexington has been approved by the Town Planning Commission.  The mayor and town council have planned to put new businesses and an assisted living center at the corner of Main Street and Church Street.

The new development has raised concerns for local businesses that already have a only lmited amount of parking available.

Lisa Cribb, who owns Cribb's Sweets and Sandwich Shop, only has 22 parking spaces that she shares with two other businesses.

"My problem is I have the parking issue," Cribb said. "They started at 45 then they moved to about 58 now their saying might be 76 parking spaces."

Emily Corley works at the Needler on North Church Street and is mainly worried about parking.

"Where are the cars going to park?"  Corley asks. "We already have traffic issues on Main Street.  I'm just now not sure that's the best idea for that location,".

The Mayor's office has not been available for comment.
